This is great news for consumers, who can now choose from, an even wider variety of higher welfare eggs says SPCA Certified Business Unit Manager Ségolène de Fontenay.
“SPCA Certified® is a voluntary animal welfare certification programme, owned and managed by SPCA New Zealand. The Certification’s purpose is to improve animal welfare in both the farming and pet care sectors. The SPCA Certified “blue badge” which can be found on products and services, makes them easily identifiable and provides customers with the confidence that their choice supports higher animal welfare.
“The high SPCA Certified® animal welfare standards fit well with our farming philosophy and we support our customers’ awareness of knowing and caring how their food is farmed”, says Ewing Poultry General Manager Paul Ewing.
“Our priority is to the welfare of our hens and our ongoing commitment is to give them the best conditions possible and providing our customers with high quality, tasty eggs”.
“By moving forward to a sustainable future we researched European standards for free range and barn systems and we found within New Zealand the SPCA Certified® is in keeping with the high EU standards and our own philosophy of high animal welfare standards,” he concludes. Sungold Organic and Golden Downs Organic free range eggs can be purchased at some stores nationwide, with all of its other SPCA Certified® eggs being able to be purchased in Pak N Save, New World, Fresh Choice and some Four Square stores in Christchurch, Kaikoura, Marlborough, Nelson and Tasman regions.
